Fashion Icon: Iris Apfel

Ladies Iris Apfel is one of my FAVE fashion icons of ALL-TIME! This 90 year old eccentric style savvy, owl framed, woman has made such a huge impact on the fashion industry it makes NO SENSE!

Iris is originally from Austria but now lives in the Upper East Side of Queens, New York. She's known for her extraordinary interior design skills and AMAZING fashion sense. Many famous designers have used her style as inspiration for their collections like Alexander Wang and she even has a book "Rare Bird of Fashion" which documents her eclectic wardrobe. But ladies the BEST part is Ms. Iris Apfel has joined forces with HSN to launch her very own collection "Rava Avis". The collection will air next month on HSN with prices ranging from $20 to $150. Check out some of her pieces and do a little research on her you'll be surprised what you find! She's definitely in the Hall of Fame of Fashion in my book!

"Style Spotlight"

Hey Ladies meet LoveJChloe she's this week's 'Stylista' who says her style is all about being comfortable and having fun check her out!

1. Describe your personal style

" I would define my style as fun, playful and versatile. I dress for the liking of myself. I like to be comfortable, and cute but don't want to appear like in trying to hard."

2. Who are some of your favorite designers?

" I have no fave designer, I feel like if its cute, AFFORDABLE and you LOVE it get it."

3. What is the one item in your closet you cannot live without?

"I'm not a girly girl so my prize possession would have to be my PINK sweats and my UGGS. I can throw them on for any occasion, EXCEPT the CLUB, (well i think I could pull off PINK attire in the club)"

4. What new trends are you excited about ROCKIN this upcoming Fall season?

"I really have no trend that I'm looking forward to. I am however looking forward to rooking fall boots (knee highs). I like to set my own trends."

5. What advice would you give to girls who  are trying to develop THEIR own personal style?

"Personal style is just that, your own person attire that you feel works for you. Don't try to imitate other's, my motto is "Do What Works For You" and that's not just restricted to style."

6. What does 'FASHION' mean to you?

"Fashion to me means FUN and self expression. Have fun with clothing, don't be afraid to step out the box but always remember to stay true to who you are."

Trend Alert: Midi Skirts

As you can tell from my 'Weekend Flow' pics from yesterday (above) I'm really digging the 'Midi Skirt' trend for Fall right now. Midi's originated in the 1940's when fashion was all about being elegant and ladylike. They typically fall anywhere from just below the knee to the mid calf and can be form fitting or flared. I love pairing my flared midi's with tight tops just to add some contrast. Thrift stores are infamous for selling midi's so go out and grab yourself a Midi and join the trend!

Scarf As A Skirt

Stay tuned for next week's tutorial to see how I took this simple circle scarf I got from American Apparel and used it to make a skirt for this fit.

The Perfect Pink Pout

Of all the MAC Lipsticks I own these 2 shades are my absolute fave! Fresh Brew and Creme Cup paired together create the absolute Perfect Pink Pout! I apply the nude "Fresh Brew" on my lips first then top it off with MAC's pink "Creme Cup". Check out the swatches and click HERE to shop.

NYX Lipsticks

Check out these four new NYX Lipsticks I picked up the other day. I really like the red shade it's perfect for spicing up a Fall fit being that it's not too bright but not too dark. Each lipstick was about $1.50 and you can pick these up at your local beauty supply or click HERE to shop online. (online has higher prices)

Remington Pearl Hot Rollers

Whenever I decide to wear my hair straight I always curl my hair with Remington's Pearl Hot Rollers. I LOVE these things like anyone that knows me know's these rollers are my drug lol! It beats the long process of curling every piece with a flat iron or curling iron especially for times when your in a rush! The rollers heat up in their case for 30 seconds and then are ready to be set in your hair. The case comes with 10 large rollers and 10 medium rollers and the ceramic pearl allows the heat not to damage your hair which is a HUGE THUMBS UP! I will do a video in the near future showing you ladies how to use this but in the meantime you can buy it at Target for $34.99

Baked EyeShadows

Late last night I was up playing around with makeup testing out some foundations and eye shadows I haven't used in awhile and I came across my Baked Eye Shadow Quads. I completely forgot how much I loved using them. Ok.. so your probably wondering what the whole Baked thing is all about right? Well....these eye shadows can be used with water to create a higher pigmentation. Just wet the tip of your makeup brush pick up some of the product and apply it to your eyes. You will notice a huge difference from the wet application than the dry application. I did a swatch for you girls so you can see the huge difference. These baked shadows are PERFECT for creating a dramatic look or smokey eye! I've fallen back in love with them!

(Top) used eyeshadow with water then swatched. (Bottom) no water just the eyeshadow. Big difference huh!

"Hair Haven Chic"

Hey ladies meet Arionne Allen, she's this week's 'Hair Haven Chic'. This post is EXTRA special for me because Arionne was my roommate and teammate in college ;) She's the one who really inspired me to go natural. I still remember her cutting off some of my permed hair one night in the dorm. I was so nervous lol ;) but that's my girl! Love ya Ari. Ladies check out her hair journey.

1. How long have you been natural?

"Actually, I have been natural all of my life, so 25 yrs. My mother was the reason behind this. She had bad experiences with perms (burned scalps, hair falling out, etc.) not to mention, it could save her money.

2. What products do you use on your hair?

"I am actually still looking for the right combination of hair care products but the ones that I use often are:
Hair Color: Clairol Flaming Desire and Red hot Red (i use this because there is no ammonia in it)
Shampoo:  Original Creme of Nature (oldy but goody, my mom used it)
Conditioner: Pantene Pro-V relaxed & natural dry to moisturize (makes my hair feel soft and manageable after color treatments)
Hair Lotion: Olive Oil hair lotion (makes my hair soft), Carol's Daughter Hair Balm (light oil that won't clog the pores)
Gel: Jam regular hold (doesn't leave residue)
Leave-in Conditioner: Creme of Nature spray conditioner (leaves a nice sheen and smells great)

3. What styles do you ROCK the most?

"I love wearing my hair out after a lose two strand twist. It's no stress on my hair and looks good."

4. What challenges have you faced with your natural tresses?

"People have criticized me for wearing my hair natural (friends, family members, coworkers). As a child it would bother me, as I got older I realized it they didn't know better. It was an internal insecurity they possessed."

5. What words of advice would you give girls that are thinking about going natural?

"To be natural isn't just a trend, it is a life style! Love yourself, be confident always, even during your WORST hair days and embrace your natural  born beauty!!!!"

6. What would you say are the advantages to having natural hair?

"All of the different styles that i can wear (puffs, a fro, twist, braids) I can even wear it straightened if I wanted to. :) AND definitely not having to run for cover when it rains outside!"
